FROM THE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
Continuing education... now that is a term we all know very
well. Continuing education or CE, to us as veterinarians,
means all of those short courses we attend throughout the
year. This gives us an opportunity to learn, share, and grow
in our profession. This is certainly not a new term to the
faculty and staff of ADDL. We at ADDL are always in the mode
of learning, sharing and growing. For example, many of us
not only attend meetings whose abbreviations include the following
sets of initials; MAVP,AALAS,NCRAC,GLFHC, ASP, NCCVLD,AAVLD,ACVP,ACPV,NPIP,IVMA,
and AVMA (I know you recognize those last two groups) ...
we are also involved in the leadership of many of these meetings.
By participating in these meetings we are able to leam the
"latest, up-to-date" findings, whether it be in
the arena of new diagnostic tests and/or procedures, or new
equipment which will help us do our job more efficiently or
more accurately, or newly discovered facts about diseases
and disease processes. In this way we are able to relay the
newest, up-to-date information in our discussions with you,
our clientele. We all grow by increasing our knowledge base
and experience in our interactions with you and others. So,
the next time you call ADDL and the voice on the other end
of the phone says, "I am sorry, but Dr. So-and-So is
out of town today," it could very well be that this individual
is participating in the continuing education process, which
will be beneficial to all of us in the long term.
On a different note, special thanks to Mr. Tom
Hooper, staff member of ADDL-SIPAC. Tom has been providing
a much I needed service of IFA tests for coronavirus of turkeys
to producers in Indiana
as well as throughout the United
States. Tom, with the assistance
of other staff members at ADDL-SEPAC, performed over 2,000
of these tests in the month of January. We applaud your hard
work and efforts for this, Tom!
I would like to introduce you to Penny Hamer, the new secretary
to the Director at ADDL. Penny comes to us from the Department
of Veterinary Basic Medical Sciences and replaces Nan Dobbins,
who is now working in the Department of Biology. One of Penny's
many jobs is editor of this newsletter, and she is doing a
great job. Thanks, Penny.
Finally, we hope you enjoy the rest of this newsletter. For
more information about Poult Enteritis, be sure to check pages
17 and 18. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate
to contact us. REMEMBER, the new area code for this region
is "765", which replaces the old area code of "317".
This area code is already effective, however, there is a "grace
period" until June I"
